Poetic mechanics of time Anton
Suhanov

Anton Suhanov at his workbench

Anton Suhanov’s poetic mechanics of time forges a link between emotions, rhythms, and horological mechanics, prioritizing conscious contemplation over technical efficiency.

According to the master, this concept combines the precision of an engineering approach to watchmaking with an emotional, poetic perception of time, allowing him to create watches that not only measure it but also deliver emotionally charged moments.

The world’s premier

watchmaking award

In 2025 Anton Suhanov won the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), the watch industry’s Oscars, in the Horological Revelation category.

The prize went to the St. Petersburg Easter Egg Tourbillon, a tourbillon clock in an Easter egg that carries on the Fabergé tradition.

On the path to a personal design code: wristwatches

WHRISTWATCHES

The path to winning the watchmaking “Oscar” for Anton Suhanov was accompanied by a search for a unique wristwatch design style. At the beginning of his creative journey, the brand he founded was associated with clocks conceived as kinetic tabletop art objects, but in 2020 the independent master set himself the goal of achieving the same spectacular effect in the compact space of a wristwatch case.

The Racer Jumping Hour GMT, the first model in Anton Suhanov’s wristwatch collection introduced in 2021, reflects a passion for vintage cars. Its double retrograde time display, with hour and minute hands, turns the dial into a miniature image of a retro car dashboard, where the smooth flow of time is accompanied by the coordinated action of a complex display module that instantly switches the hour indicators of local time and GMT.

RACER JUMPING HOUR GMT

Suhanov’s next fundamentally new development was the Chronotope model, inspired by Russian philosopher Mikhail Bakhtin’s concept of the chronotope and presented in 2024. This watch not only attracted the attention of collectors but was also nominated for the Geneva Grand Prix, making the shortlist of the best watches of the year. The peripheral rotor for automatic winding, the unique day-of-the-week indicator mechanism open on the dial side, and Suhanov’s new “tweezer” hands tipped with technical ruby jewels serve not only a practical function but also create visual harmony.

CHRONOTOPE

In 2026, Anton Suhanov revealed a new facet of poetic timekeeping technology, combining the precise oscillations of the balance wheel with exquisite kinetic light effects. To achieve this, he adapted the idea of the “flaming balance,” originally invented for the Pharos clock with a three-axis tourbillon, for the Flamingo wristwatch. To make the look as impressive as possible, he made the “flaming balance” one of the largest among modern wristwatches and installed it on the dial side.

Clock as a kinetic
art object

where it all began

Before unveiling his vision of mechanical wristwatches, Anton Suhanov focused on complex interior clocks. After founding his brand in 2016, he immediately established himself as a creator of clocks conceived as extraordinary kinetic art objects.

Deskwatch

LOTUS

In the Lotus clock (2020), he placed even greater emphasis on kinetic art by creating a mechanical flower that closes its petals at night and blooms with the first rays of the sun, as if protecting the delicate three-axis tourbillon mechanism nestled within. The watchmaker incorporated his signature “flaming balance,” which makes the tourbillon particularly striking in the dark, as the balance is engaged in a complex dynamic that combines its regular oscillations with the tourbillon’s rotation. Together, these dynamics create a stunning luminous pattern.

Suhanov’s creations clearly express the brand’s philosophy: timepieces are not just utilitarian tools but living mechanisms, where the metal retains the touch of the master craftsman who created them.

A foundation of craftsmanship

The success of Anton Suhanov’s manufacture is undeniable. He has a solid engineering background and ten years of experience working side by side with another outstanding independent watchmaker, Konstantin Chaykin. Having risen from technical designer to production manager, Suhanov learned how to bring the boldest ideas to life, combining a rigorous engineering approach with an uncompromising commitment to both quality and perfect finishing in every component.

Anton Suhanov’s timepieces and distinctive designs have been recognized by the international professional community: in 2022, he achieved candidate status, and since 2025, he has been a full member of the Academy of Independent Watchmakers (AHCI).

Independence in the heart
of St. Petersburg

Today, Anton Suhanov’s manufacture is an independent laboratory of time. He isn’t chasing mass production here. Every timepiece passes through his hands, whether it’s the St. Petersburg Easter Egg Tourbillon clock, conceived as an art object that won the Horological Revelation Prize at GPHG, or the Racer, Chronotope, and Flamingo wristwatches. Anton Suhanov’s manufacture is a story of technical audacity, sharp intelligence, and the traditions of Russian watchmaking.
